Role

Event Manager, Project Lead

(2020 - 2021)

With COVID-19 disorienting many organisations’ event plans in 2020, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) approached Sprout to aid them in turning their physical events into virtual experiences for all the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, and University of Pretoria students and alumni in the Dell Young Leaders and Sikelela Scholars programmes. The goal? To strengthen affinity with the scholarship brands, provide opportunities for students and alumni to network across the scholarship community, deliver professional development opportunities, and ensure the community felt supported and connected during an extremely isolating and uncertain time.

I led a group of event pros that, together with MSDF teams in SA and the US, harnessed the power of Hopin to produce wellness, skills development, leadership, and social experiences (with an average of 250 attendees per event) for the 2020/21 calendar. From digital swag bags, spot prizes for highest engagement and live polls, to speed dating, breakout workshops, and guest appearances on “stage” from influencers and thought leaders, our events were sought-after because they were built on key pillars: relevant content, high quality production value, human connection, and a platform that delivered on our priority goals while still taking into consideration the high cost of data in South Africa.
